GRADE 6

Debating Team

Grade 6’s and our debating team headed to Melbourne on Wednesday 22nd November for the Intercampus Debating Competition. I would like to congratulate our debating team, Fareba Rezai, Riahaan Syed and Mariam El-Hauoli on achieving second place at this event. The team’s hard work leading up to the competition (i.e. giving up lunches and recess times), has paid off. Well done, team! They had mastered the debating structure very well for senior primary students and they spoke clearly and presented good arguments.

Incursion

We had a Billy Cart incursion which involved Ayat and Kawsair designing their billy cart. Each of them worked in teams to build a cart, which involved a workshop where the students were able to use simple machinery to build a design of their own and then the final activity allowed the students to ride and push a buddy in a billy cart. They both seemed to have a lot of fun.

By the way teachers like to have a bit of fun too, they also enjoyed this incursion!

Teachers love to have fun, too

Ayat’s Memories of Sirius College

Prep: In prep my teacher was Mrs. Pandher. One day she let us bring our teddy bears to school and we had a tea party and we didn’t wear our uniforms.

Grade 1: The whole school went to the Zoo, and we got to see all the animals we walked around with our teacher Mrs.Pandher.

Grade 2: In Grade 2 we went on an excursion to “Yarribee Yesterday World”. We went with Grade 1’s and 3’s. While we were there, we played olden day games and visited a classroom from the past.

Grade 3: We went to Billabong Ranch for our school camp. We rode horses which we really enjoyed. We did a rope course and played mini golf. We were able to hold animals (puppies and rabbits). We rode on the paddleboats on the dam and the night bush walk were just another couple of the activities that we also did at camp. One of the other memories was when a kid (baby goat) came to the window early in the morning and scared us.

Grade 4: What I remember from Grade 4, was that we went to the Science Discovery Centre on my birthday. Whilst we were there we went down a very high drop slide.

Grade 5: We went to Sovereign Hill with the year 6’s. Our first stop was the Central Deborah Goldmine and we got to see the machines they used to find gold. Then we went onto Sovereign Hill and we went gold panning which was fun. We visited a miner’s cottage, and watched how they melt gold down which I got to hold, and then we had dinner in the New York Bakery. The next day we went gold panning again then we went down the mine on a tour. We visited the lolly shop and saw how they make candy. On the last day when we went to Kyral Castle, we were able to have a go at archery and sword fighting.

Grade 6: During the Urban Camp, we went to an art gallery and we got to draw some pictures that we liked. After that we went to a Chinese museum where we had a look around and learnt a bit about the Chinese history and we made a friendship band. After dinner, we went to the Melbourne Star. It was amazing seeing Melbourne at night! The next day we went to Cook’s Cottage and played some activities and then at night we got to watch a movie in the movie room. On the last day we went to the library and learnt about Ned Kelly.

Kawsair’s Memories of Sirius College

Since arriving at Sirius College in Grade 4, I have learnt a lot of new things and joined in with others when we go on excursions and camps. When we went to the Science Works Discovery Centre, we did a night walk and other activities.

In Grade 5, we had the Bullying Incursion. I liked our visit to Twisted Science where we learnt about electrical circuits. I enjoyed participating in the concert when we acted out and danced the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.

This year, in grade 6, we visited Twisted Science where were learnt about ‘Light’. We visited the CFA Van which came to the school and we talked about fire safety. We also visit the Shepparton Heritage Centre. I liked how we learnt about the history of Shepparton and saw how different daily objects change over time. For Religion and Value were visited a few different places so we were able to learn how the different faiths worship.
